Wellington – 25/02/10

Sit-in/tune-in protest outside Parliament in Wellington

The crowd of around 300 gathered outside Parliament and was addressed by Green Party MP Sue Kedgley, Labour MP Grant Robertson, Green Party co-leader Russel Norman, Green MP Keith Locke, Labour MP Sue Moroney, Labour MP David Shearer, and United Future leader Peter Dunne. Portable transistor radios were carried by many, all tuned in to Radio New Zealand. During the speeches protestors texted their support to Radio NZ's Jim Mora who was broadcasting at the time. Save Radio NZ protest today
The Save Radio New Zealand group on Facebook now has 13,600 members and today (the 25th) there will be an event at Parliament between 1 and 2. It won’t be your typical rowdy protest, instead the idea is to bring along your radio and something to eat and drink, and have a mass picnic on the lawn while showing your support for National Radio.
